Cold streak dooms Lady Eagles on the road

Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Southern Miss went the final 5:23 of the first half without a field goal and lost its first-quarter lead for good as the Lady Eagles lost 75-62 at North Texas on Thursday. 

Brittanny Dinkins led Southern Miss (11-7, 3-3 CUSA) with 22 points while Jayla King chipped in 14 and a team-high eight rebounds. Candice Adams led the Mean Green with 16 points and four 3-pointers while Terra Ellison and Terriell Bradley each had 15.

Both teams shot better than 50 percent, but North Texas (6-11, 3-3) outscored the Golden Eagles by 24 points behind the 3-point line.  Southern Miss held advantages in points in the paint (32-22) and fast-break points (14-2).

The Lady Eagles return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday when they visit Rice.
