PURVIS – A 22-year-old Hattiesburg man was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with one count of murder in a Friday night shooting that left two men dead in Lamar County.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said investigators from his department and marshals from the United States Marshal Service's Fugitive Task Force arrested Darren D. Lang without incident about 2 p.m. Tuesday on Park Avenue in Hattiesburg.

Lang, who had been out on bond from a previous burglary, had that bond revoked in a first appearance before Justice Court Judge Denton Plumlee.

Lang then was denied bond on the murder charge and remains in custody at the Lamar County Jail.

"He was developed as a suspect early, and there were multiple ideas of where he might be, including out of state," Rigel said. "That's why we contacted the U.S. marshals, and they were with us when we arrested him without incident this afternoon."

Demetries Minor, 34, and Brandon Nicholson, 23, both died from gunshot wounds at the scene late Friday at an apartment in the 100 block of North Windridge Lane off Old Highway 11.

Minor was the apartment's tenant.

Rigel said Lang was charged with one count of murder while investigators await the result of autopsies performed by the state Crime Lab in Jackson.

"The investigation still is ongoing," Rigel said.

In addition to the murder count and the old burglary charge, Lang was booked on a count of residential burglary and eluding an officer.
