Rollover accident kills one person in Greene County

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop J is investigating the cause of an early Sunday morning accident in Greene County that left one person dead and three others injured.

Troop J spokesman Brent Barfield said the passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet van was killed when the van rolled over on westbound Hwy. 98 at Jim Powell Road around 7:30 a.m.

The victim was identified as Mary Fears, 57, of Umatilla, Florida. She was traveling with her daughter Barbara Fears, 26, who was driving the van. Barbara Fears and her two children, ages 22-months and 6-years, were injured in the accident.

Barfield said one of the children was airlifted in serious condition to Forrest General Hospital. He was not sure which child was airlifted. The other child and Barbara Fears were taken to Forrest General by ambulance. Their condition is not known.

Barfield said the accident is still under investigation. It is not known what caused the vehicle to roll over.
