A Hattiesburg man is dead after an afternoon shooting Wednesday, Hattiesburg police said.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict identified the victim as Christopher Robinson, 48, of Hattiesburg.

"He was pronounced at Forrest General Hospital this evening," Benedict said.

Hattiesburg Police spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler said Robinson sustained at least one gunshot wound at the scene of the crime.

Robinson was one of two men who were injured in the shooting in Hattiesburg, Traxler said.

No arrests have been made in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Police responded to a 3:30 p.m. call to 3997 Morningside Drive where they had received a call of shots fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Robinson at the bottom of a set of stairs, suffering from what looked like a single gunshot wound, Traxler said.

Benedict said the cause of Robinson's death will be ruled when an autopsy has been completed.

Robinson's death marks the 10th homicide in Hattiesburg in 2014.

Traxler said upon further investigation, police discovered a second man had been shot when a bullet went through a door and hit him.

Robinson was transported to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, said Traxler, who added the second victim was not taken for medical care.
