Hattiesburg doctor, second man arrested on drug charges

Two Hattiesburg men — one a trauma surgeon at Forrest General Hospital — were arrested Thursday on drug-related charges.

Dr. George McGee, 63, of Hattiesburg, who lists himself as chief medical informatics officer with Forrest General, and Russell Herbert Golemon, 42, were arrested by the 12th Judicial Circuit Court Narcotics Enforcement Team — 12 NET — and booked into Forrest County Jail.

"The task force was called to assist the Drug Enforcement Administration in a search warrant in Forrest County today where two subjects were arrested," said Forrest County Sheriff's Department investigator Nick Calico.

McGee and Golemon have been charged at the state level and are expected to make their initial appearance in court Friday morning, said Terry Davis, resident agent in charge for the DEA.

“We conducted a search warrant at the doctor’s residence and discovered an undetermined amount of methamphetamine and ecstasy,” Davis said.

A gun also was found in the home. The search warrant was issued as part of an ongoing federal investigation into illegal drug activity with connections in the eastern part of the United States, he said.

Calico said McGee and Golemon each were charged with sale of a controlled substance-ecstasy and possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine while in possession of a firearm, both felony charges, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana charges.

McGee is listed on Forrest General's website, ForrestHealth.org, as a trauma surgeon at the hospital's trauma surgery clinic.

Forrest General spokeswoman Amanda Kirby declined to comment.

McGee and Golemon remain in Forrest County Jail awaiting their initial court appearances.

"Other substances were recovered from the residence that will be sent to the crime lab for identification," Calico said. "Other charges may be pending."
