Hattiesburg man to be arraigned on murder charge

A 37-year-old Hattiesburg man is scheduled for arraignment Friday in Forrest County Circuit Court on a first-degree murder charge in connection with a deadly August 2013 shooting.

Dwayne Bryant was indicted last month by a Forrest County grand jury in the death of Adrian Walker, 32.

Bryant originally was charged with aggravated assault after he had turned himself in to Hattiesburg police following an early-morning shooting on Aug. 1, 2013, at Bonhomie Apartments on Country Club Road.

At that time, HPD spokesman Lt. Jon Traxler said an altercation led to the incident that sent Walker to Forrest General Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Walker died from his injuries a month later at the hospital.

An upgraded charge of murder was presented to the grand jury for consideration. After the indictment was returned, a warrant for Bryant's arrest was issued.

Bryant was taken into custody and booked into jail Monday by Forrest County deputies.
